This week we are supporting Good Divorce Week 2025 which is an initiative aimed at raising awareness of approaching divorce in a more constructive way. The force behind the campaign is Resolution, the leading organisation for family practitioners who share the belief that separation does not have to be acrimonious. Resolution have also named 2025 ‘the Year of the Code’, and naturally the focus of this year’s edition of Good Divorce Week is on Resolution’s Code of Practice.  The Code of Practice sets out the principles of a non-confrontational approach to family matters, supporting our ethos and guiding how we work.

Where it is possible to do so, we seek to resolve problems outside of court, through a range of options, helping couples take more control over the process and enabling them to move on with their lives more quickly than through the courts.

As proud members of Resolution, we respect and uphold the Code of Practice which means that:

  • We avoid inflammatory language
  • We support and encourage families to put the best interests of children first
  • We act with honesty, integrity and objectivity
  • We help clients consider the long-term emotional and financial impact of their decisions
  • We promote communication and collaboration wherever possible
  • We use experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them

People often think of divorce and separation as a troublesome, emotionally taxing process. While this can be true in certain circumstances, Good Divorce Week is a reminder that divorce can actually be ‘good’ too, even when it is difficult. The manner in which people separate is important and can make a significant difference in their outlook, wellbeing and the final outcome of a divorce. A good divorce is, therefore, one which focuses on constructive communication, mutual respect and de-escalating conflict early.

Good Divorce Week is about raising awareness of this approach – one that puts children first, reduces conflict, and encourages solutions that work for everyone involved. We are proud to be part of a community that champions these values and advocates for change in our family justice system. Every family deserves the chance to find a better way through separation – one that’s constructive, compassionate, and fair.

Compassion is at the heart of what we do, and we see first-hand the positive impact this approach can have on our clients. If you are considering separation and would like to know how we can help you navigate the process with empathy and integrity, do not hesitate to complete our enquiry form at www.lakelegal.co.uk or contact our team on 0113 357 1270.
